DESIGN CHALLENGE

Design a print publication that promotes a selected collection from the Smithsonian’s Cooper Hewitt Museum. Curate imagery and conduct research to inform your concept and visual direction. Using Adobe InDesign, develop a cohesive visual system integrating typography, imagery, and messaging. Consider narrative flow, pacing, and hierarchy throughout the publication. Ensure your design responds thoughtfully to the target audience while aligning with Cooper Hewitt’s brand identity.

CREATIVE SOLUTION

I chose the museum collection “A Dark, A Light, A Bright: A Dorothy Liebes Collection,” focusing on Liebes’s fashion textiles used in film, photography, and woven design in interior spaces. Using Cooper Hewitt brand elements and typography, I created a cohesive visual system emphasizing hierarchy and balanced composition. After researching Dorothy Liebes’s work, I curated an image library and Cooper Hewitt assets. In InDesign, I used a modular grid to develop multiple layout iterations, experimenting with type, image, message, and color. Each spread maintains visual cohesion while introducing a distinct layout to keep the publication engaging. The final publication supports the Cooper Hewitt brand and presents information through a clear, visually compelling system that highlights Liebes’ work.
